Waypoint Narrative #9

Waypoint Narratives: Five questions, one objective - share stories of people who have experienced the impact of the outdoors.

Blazer, AKA Grace, joins us today to share her new found love of the great outdoors! When not found cheering or crushing it in the classroom, Grace enjoys exploring in the woods with her dad or getting lost with me! Grace is fierce and strong, and I’m glad she stepped outside her comfort zone to give hiking (and trail running) a try!

Do you have a trail name, and how did you acquire it?

Yes, I have a trail name it is Blazer. And I got it from leading the trail and spotting the blazes.

What is the most prominent thing the trail/the outdoors has taught you about yourself?

One time, there was a hike and it was like 5 miles (6 to 7 to be exact) in the hot sun and by the 3rd mile my legs hurt but I told myself, “Keep going, you got this. One foot at a time,” so it taught me that I will never give up.

What are the key waypoints of your life that ultimately lead you to the trail in the first place?

Something that lead me to the trail is the beautiful nature. And I can tell myself when I finished I did it.

Share about one of the most memorable problem-solving moments you’ve had on the trail.

Sorry, can’t think of anything.

-

I will say that Grace is a great problem-solver. On our hikes together, she is able to identify problems out loud without getting flustered and discuss potential solutions before deciding on an action plan. For a 10 year old, that is certainly impressive!

Who and/or what inspires you to keep moving forward?

I myself inspire me to keep moving. And someone or something that doesn’t inspire me is other hikers.
